WORKSHOP INFORMATION AND REQUEST FORM

We can offer a variety of workshops to suit the specific needs of your students or client group. Below is a selection of sample workshops that have been delivered in the past to cooperative education and career classes at local high schools. They have also been delivered to specific programs at the college level.

Please keep in mind that each group is unique and the workshops are tailored to meet the needs of workshop participants. Care is taken to address the needs of the various learning styles, literacy levels and timeframes.

Workshops are delivered by a supportive facilitator that emphasizes a positive environment, individual and small group information-sharing while providing current knowledge on various career development and job search material that relates to the local labour market (within the context of national, provincial and international trends). The facilitator generally follows the Life Skills model of facilitation yet varies delivery as appropriate to the workshop participants.

Job Search Skills
  • Techniques and methods for effective job searching
Resumes and Cover Letters
  • Tips on resumes and cover letters that employers will notice
Interviews
  • Tips and hints for before, during and after the interview process, practice questions - and the answers, behaviour-based interviews, preparation and importance of research
Career Exploration
  • Exercises to assist participants identify skills, values, and interests - and how to relate to potential careers - can also use on-line materials if internet access is available
Job Maintenance
  • How to keep your job; learn the nuances of workplace communication, employer expectations
Portfolio Development
  • Develop a portfolio that impresses employers - showcase your skills developed in work, school or volunteer placements - or get assistance in targeting your portfolio
Labour Market
Forecasting and identifying trends (local, national and international), opportunities, internet tools - and how it relates to participants and success in the job market
Self-Marketing
  • Develop the skills to market yourself to employers by creating a one-minute sale, networking/business cards
